Website Marketing Strategies - Promoting Your Niche
Page Rank and Link Popularity
Once you have decided on your niche and website theme then it's time do develop some website marketing strategies to help increase your link popularity. Increasing link popularity will also help increase your page rankings in the search engines. There are many ways of doing this both off-site and on-site optimization.Website marketing Strategies - On-site optimization.
These are the things that can be done on your personal web space and domain. Take a look at your web pages. They should be clean and not overloaded with pics, banners, and affiliate links. How fast do they load? When someone lands on your page is it obvious what the page is about? Here are a few other things to consider.
- Key words and phrases in Meta tags. Spend some time on this. Use the main key words and phrases all meta tags on each page. This is what will be seen on a search engine results page or SERP for short. Make it interesting and compelling.
- Keywords in URL and Title. It is recommended to have the main key word or phrase of the page in the title and url of the page. Each page should be on a different subject of your niche.
- Keywords and phrases in Text. Use your main key phrase throughout the text of the page. Also use some secondary key phrases a little, but no so as to dilute the main phrase of the document. Try for about a 2-3% usage of your main key phrase in the text of the documents. That's about one key word or phrase for every 100 words, but main thing is to write naturally.
- Use "alt" tags on any pics on the page.
- No duplicate content. Don't scrape content from other sources to use as content on your page. Original content only.
Website marketing Strategies - Building Assets
This can be a time consuming but an absolute necessary element of building of your website marketing strategy. Backlinks, which I prefer to call assets, are nothing more that a link posted on another site that points to your pages. It is also extremely important to use a large variety of places where you create the backlink. Here is a short list for creating backlinks.
- Submit articles. There are hundreds of article directories that will receive an article on some subject of your niche. There is a short list at the bottom of my article marketing page to get you started with article marketing.
- Create other blogs. Google's Blogger is a free service and another good place to post info on your niche.
- Forums. Find some forums about your niche. Most allow links in your signature and bio section of the forum. Ask and answer question to get you site url active.
- Online Communities. There are many but some good ones are Squidoo, Hubpages, and Pinterest are excellent places to create assets and draw good traffic to your site also.
- Social Media. Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ are a few of the major ones.
- Other sources. Riddit, Stumpleupon, Linkedin, Blinklist, Myspace, Digg, Reddit, and Tumblr are all good sources.
Website Marketing Strategies - Things that can hurt page rank.
There are definitely a few thing to stay away from and not do that can quickly get your site devalued by Google.
Here are just a few.
- Keyword stuffing on web pages. Over optimizing you pages with a large number of keywords want look natural or normal to Google now.
- Low quality pages. With time some may create hundreds of low quality blogs with link to your pages. Not good
- Spamming your links. You can find any number of sites offering free submission to hundreds of other sites. These are often very low quality and full of spam links to other sites.
- Vary your anchor text and bio links. When submitting articles, creating blogs, or getting links from other sources always vary the anchor text used. Use just portions of your key word or phrase; use "click here"; use your full URL
- Create more than one page. You don't want all your links point to just one page or home page of your site.
Website Marketing Strategies - Page rank takes time.
I know we live in an age of instant gratification but trying to game the search engines to increase page rank will only lead to disaster and getting your site devalued by Google. That will be something hard to recover from. The recent Google Panda and Penguin algorithms have turned internet SEO upside down. Many sites, some with very big brand names, went from having hundreds of visitors daily to almost zero, mostly due to past SEO practices. A sudden increase in backlinks and overly optimized pages will only through up a red flag to the search engines. No matter how tempting don't do it.
Website Marketing Strategies - In Summary
It should be obvious one can't do all the above at once. Try to write a few article a week and submit them to several directories. Spend some time to create more pages and content for your domain. Try to use some of the other sources to advertise your site. It will take some time to develop a good website marketing strategy for your business.
Expand on the things that are working for you, then re-evaluate the things that are not. You need to use a large variety of places to advertise your pages. The days of gaming the search engines are pretty much over if Google continues the path they are taking now. A slow consistent effort of promotion will be the norm now. And one last thought. Don't obsess over your page rank in Google.
If you follow good white hat methods of website promotion you will be getting traffic from those other sources. And also remember Google isn't the only game in town. There are still millions using Yahoo, Bing, and a few other sources as their preferred search engine.
